Global languages?

Circle of Life- Multilingual version – by Leyoria (Youtube).

The movie – Lion King- personifies the meaning of communication in the circle of life. An understanding that we should all embrace. Online communities are growing steadily through web 2.0 and social networking.

This chart from glreach.com provides an insight into online language populations, from sept 2004. Note that ‘English’ is the most widely used online language spoken for that period. Immediately we can see that, every product launched during that period, reached a potential of 35.2% of the world population, if produced only in English.

Reading it from the other side – the marketers of the product have failed to reach 64.8% of worldwide prospects. Some may argue that people from – let us say – Korea, are not going to be interested in their product. In my own humble opinion, that is taking the tunnel route – when you can’t see the wood for the trees – why bother?

Further analysis of online language population may reveal that – Asian language sites are exploding online to such an extent, that within a short time, they will equal the number of English speaking web sites. For example, as I write, I flipped over to Youtube and noticed – 15 Asian made videos positioned within the 1st 3 pages of most watched.

Each and every video that I have produced, has been embedded onto hundreds of Asian sites, as well as European sites. This happens to any video uploaded to Youtube, because they allow embedding to be copied. Should we be worried about the shift?

At this moment, I would say no – we should welcome the shift, and embrace all the people, as our own. In friendship and marketing, we should reach out to everyone. Personally, by realizing this phenomenon, I have made many friends with people, from all walks of life, and from every country in the world.

Once again, comments from this blog, shall be made in many different languages, to spread the word of friendship.

Multilingual marketing Pt2 – Global population?

560px-population_density.png

Population density map of the world in 1994, when the world’s population was at 5.6 billion; Observe the high densities in the Indo-Gangetic and North China Plains, the Sichuan Basin, the Nile river delta, Southern Japan, Western Europe, the Indonesian island of Java, Central America (especially El Salvador, the Americas’ most densely populated nation), and the United StatesBosWash megalopolis.

The world population density map – courtesy of Wikepedia, highlights the importance of realizing the whole world as a huge market place. Why set your stall out in a small town market, whilst, through the power of the internet, and the growing popularity of web 2.0 – your thoughts, idea’s, and in fact, your product can be projected to the masses.

Provided your idea or product has solid foundations, and worth, it shall spread further and gain momentum at great speed by global referral. Only by having a variation of your product, or a specialty that is different to all others, will you stand a chance of selling in a small market place.

As stated previously, my hotmail inbox has over 4000 unopened emails from English marketers. When someone sends me an email with the heading – global, or multilingual, I shall open it because that person has realized the world as a whole.

When you study the comments to this blog, in all different languages, will it open your eyes? The comments may not be an exact interpretation but the purpose may be understood.
